According to the website for Brevard, the town was named after Dr. Ephraim Brevard who was a Revolutionary War Colonel and surgeon. Along with this, the Transylvania County website says this county was named by Representative Joseph P. Jordan in 1861. He also chose the name for the town of Brevard. Transylvania, according to this website, means over the trees.....
